Bridging the Digital Divide: A Community-Based Digital Literacy School for Rural Empowerment

Problem Statement

Despite the growing importance of digital skills in Kenya’s economy, rural communities like Kayambo continue to face limited access to digital infrastructure, skills development opportunities, and internet connectivity. This digital divide has left many youths and adults unable to take advantage of emerging online platforms for employment, entrepreneurship, and education.

While the government has launched the Constituency Digital Innovation Hubs initiative to promote free internet access and digital innovation across all 290 constituencies, localized implementation remains limited. Without grassroots digital literacy programs that complement national efforts, many rural areas risk being left behind in the digital economy.

The Cornerstone Digital Literacy School aims to bridge this gap by providing structured digital skills training and internet access in Kayambo, empowering residents to participate meaningfully in Kenya’s growing digital landscape in line with the objectives of the national Constituency Innovation Hubs.
